About Kumba Iron Ore

Kumba Iron Ore is one of Africa's largest iron-ore producers and a majority-owned subsidiary of Anglo American. It mines high-grade iron ore at its Sishen and Kolomela operations in South Africa's Northern Cape and exports almost all of it, principally to steelmakers in China and elsewhere. Listed on the JSE, Kumba's earnings are highly geared to the international iron-ore price, export logistics (particularly the performance of the rail line to the port at Saldanha) and the rand. As a high-margin, single-commodity exporter, it is a well-known dividend payer whose fortunes rise and fall with global steel demand and iron-ore prices.
