About Impala Platinum

Impala Platinum (Implats) is one of the world's largest producers of platinum-group metals (PGMs) — platinum, palladium and rhodium — mined mainly in South Africa and Zimbabwe. These metals are used in vehicle catalytic converters, jewellery and industrial applications. Listed on the JSE, Implats earns revenue geared to PGM basket prices and the rand, so its profits swing sharply with global metal prices and demand from the automotive sector. As a major PGM miner, it is exposed to the long-term outlook for internal-combustion vehicles versus electrification, as well as South African mining costs, electricity supply and labour dynamics.
