Editorial guidelines
Millions of money decisions start with a search. We hold everything we publish to a clear standard so that what you read about South African finance is accurate, independent and genuinely useful.
Accuracy and fact-checking
Every figure we publish — interest rates, fees, premiums, tax thresholds, eligibility rules and deadlines — is checked against authoritative South African sources before it goes live: provider terms and rate cards, SARS, the National Credit Regulator (NCR), the FSCA, the JSE and CIPC, among others.
- We never invent specifics. If we can't verify a number from a reliable source, we don't publish it as fact.
- We cite or link to the primary source so you can check it yourself.
- Where rules are nuanced, we say so rather than oversimplifying in a way that could mislead.
Independence
Our editorial judgement is never for sale. Ratings, rankings, awards and recommendations are decided on the merits, and commercial relationships — affiliate links, sponsorships, advertising — never influence them. Anything paid-for is clearly labelled, and a sponsored label never changes a product's independent rating. We explain the full revenue picture on our how we make money page.
How we use AI
We use AI tools to help with research, drafting and spotting content that needs a refresh. But AI never publishes on its own. A human editor reviews, fact-checks and approves every piece before it goes live, and is accountable for it. AI-assisted does not mean unchecked.
Authorship and review
- Articles carry a named author who is responsible for the content.
- Where a topic is technical or high-stakes, a subject-matter reviewer checks it before publication.
- How we score products specifically is documented in our ratings methodology.
Keeping content current
Financial products and rules change constantly. We review and date our guides on an ongoing schedule, and older content is flagged for a refresh so the information you rely on stays accurate. A published date and, where relevant, a last-reviewed date appear on our articles.
Corrections
We fix mistakes quickly and openly. If you spot something out of date or incorrect, please tell us and we'll review it. Getting it right matters more than being fast.
